Hey cartpauj, I know you have no control over this, but I thought it was interesting, I have had about 5 people sign up to my forums from south east asia, when I clicked on referer in the logs it showed they had searched google specifically for mingle+forum+ and some other stuff. As soon as they logged in they went to the admin panel and uploaded a girls name and a picture of a pretty girl and would link a website for garage doors, fire damage repair, etc. After googling their user ID and e-mail, I saw they had signed up on a bunch of other mingle forums in the previous few days, I immediately deleted their accounts. Most of the IP's were coming from the phillipines.

Is there anything specific about mingle that would attract spammers? Or is that just normal, this is my first time running a forum so I have no reference point for something like that

Spammers love attacking forums, because it's usually easy to sign up, and they're often not maintained by their owners very well. We're constantly fighting SPAM here which is why we're slowly working towards better capabilities to block it.

One thing you can try is installing a registration plugin that specifically fights WordPress spam registrations. I think there's one called Ban Hammer or something like that, that does a descent job. There are a slew of other's too that you can search for. If you find one that seems to work extra well for you, please share.

Next we are looking to integrate with something like Akismet, to run replies through to check for SPAM before the post is ever approved...but since the forum relies on WordPress's native signup process, we can't do much to keep SPAMMERS from signing up, which is why I recommend another solution for something like that.

good to know, I had banhammer at one point to just ban people but have sinced switched to wordfenc which offers a bunch of other options that banhammer didn't. I used akisment for the past year but didn't renew it. I just enabled a captcha for comments and I require admin approval of all comments which stopped 99 percent of the stuff that akismet caught. If I find anything I think works better I'll post here, peace

I think I paid for the premium version which was like 40 dollars a year, they sent me a renewal e-mail a couple weeks ago and I just deleted it from my site
