Image Uploads

A user of the forum that I've put onto a website has inquired about just what kinds of images can be uploaded. He tried to upload a TIF file, but after doing so he found that no image was shown for it.

Just which types of image files are supported?

Are there any file-size or other limitations? If so, can these be easily configured?
